A powerful 7.0 earthquake struck 10 miles north of Anchorage, Alaska, at 8:29 local time this morning.
The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for areas near the epicenter and urged residents to seek higher ground. The warning did not include other US west coast areas or Hawaii.
The Anchorage Daily News reported: “At Anchorage Daily News in Midtown, it sent cracks up walls, damaged ceiling panels and flung items off desks and walls, including a computer monitor and a fire extinguisher.”

Local news station KTUU-TV took to Facebook to report they had been knocked off the air after the quake.
Social media images and videos are showing collapsed roads, cracked and crumbling roads, and buildings with cracked walls as well.
It is not yet known if any injuries have been reported.
Residents in Fairbanks more than 350 miles from the epicenter said they felt the shaking.
