JetBlue Airways today announces plans to further expand its South Florida focus city at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport with two new international routes. The airline, best known for its award-winning in-flight experience and its commitment to customer service, intends to commence daily nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and to Cancun, Mexico, in May 2009, subject to receipt of government operating authority.

“JetBlue is proud to expand on our success in Fort Lauderdale with new service to Mexico and the Dominican Republic,” said Marty St. George, JetBlue’s Vice President of Planning. “Customers have come to prefer JetBlue for our inflight entertainment, generous name-brand snacks, and award-winning customer service — all for one low price. We invite you to experience our low fares and lots of frills on our newest service between Fort Lauderdale and the Caribbean.”

JetBlue’s planned service to Cancun and Santo Domingo is the latest in the airline’s Caribbean expansion from Fort Lauderdale. The airline kicks off twice-daily nonstop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico on December 18 while another new route, to Nassau, Bahamas, begins February 1, 2009. In addition to its new Caribbean service, JetBlue offers routes from Fort Lauderdale to 13 cities throughout the United States with up to 46 daily departures.

JetBlue intends to operate its Santo Domingo service with 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft and its Cancun route with the spacious 100-seat EMBRAER 190 jet. Both fleets feature industry leading legroom, roomy leather seats, personal seatback entertainment, plus unlimited free snacks and drinks served up by JetBlue’s friendly, award-winning Crewmembers.

With 705 crewmembers based in Fort Lauderdale, JetBlue is the third largest airline serving Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport as based on average daily departures for spring 2009. The airline is the second-largest U.S. airline serving the Caribbean (based on average daily departures) and this winter will offer more than 62 daily flights from various East Coast gateways to the region’s most popular destinations, including: Aruba; Bermuda; Cancun; St. Maarten; Nassau, Bahamas; Aguadilla, Ponce, and San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Puerto Plata, Santiago and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
