Today is the day the US Embassy opened in Jerusalem, Israel.  Today may have been the day tourism to Jerusalem was killed. Tourism is a peace industry, but not today.

Today is the day South Africa and Turkey recalled their ambassadors from Israel, Turkey is also recalling their ambassador from the United States, a fellow NATO partner.

And today is the day 55 Palestinian died and 2,700 wounded by Israeli troops. The US Embassy opening turned violent just a mile or so away.

Palestinian officials said, on the deadliest day of violence since the 2014 Gaza war, air strikes, machine guns were heard in Jerusalem. The security situation in the West Bank and Jerusalem was chaotic.

Israel said some 40,000 Palestinians had taken part in “violent riots” at 13 locations along the Gaza Strip security fence.

Palestinians hurled stones and incendiary devices, while the Israeli military used tear gas and live fire from snipers.

The Palestinian Authority’s leader condemned a “massacre”. The UN spoke of “outrageous human rights violations”.

This was the “Day of Rage” protests have been called for in the West Bank, in addition to “March of Return” mass demonstrations in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

Pomp, ceremony, and enthusiasm ruled the day in Jerusalem, as the much-anticipated United States Embassy was inaugurated in what President Donald Trump in December recognized as Israel’s capital.

The new US Embassy website posted: Be a witness to history! Seventy years after President Truman recognized the State of Israel, today we are proud and excited to open the new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Israel.

The Palestinian Authority with the official Facebook page of Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah Movement posted a photoshopped image of US President Donald Trump being “arrested” on the Temple Mount by soldiers of “Palestine.”
