Arusha, Tanzania (eTN) – An “Aerial tourism flight” of Serengeti Balloon Safari experienced catastrophic engine failure on Wednesday afternoon shortly after taking off and ultimately crashed into an idle industrial area in Moshi town, killing two people and three others leaving fighting for their lives into referral hospital.

Eyewitness says the fatal flight crash which occurred nearly 90km East of Arusha, the Tanzania’s Northern safari capital, claimed the very life of Tanzanian young pilot, Baraka Rutwaza (36) and his passenger Hayden Rowans (26) from New Zealand.

Those who are still fighting for their very lives at the referral hospital the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre’ (KCMC) identified as Isaac Jones (28) from South Africa and a sky guide master of the plane, Syrian Bolton from the UK.

Another injured person, who is yet to be identified, has been admitted to the similar Hospital after the plane crashed on him while riding a bicycle. The bodies of the crash victims are also preserved at KCMC.

A Preliminary report by the Ministry of Home Affairs says a Cessna 172 aircraft registration number 5H-FUN, crashed eight minutes after taking off at Moshi strip Airport in Kilimanjaro region, some 45 km south-east of the famous Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA).

“The pilot encountered with some technical faults and boldly communicated with the KIA, asking for landing. However, it crashed before it could land there” narrated the Kilimanjaro regional police commander, Lucas Ng`hoboko, explaining that the plane crashed at around 2.40 p.m.

Available records indicate that this is the first aircraft which provides “aerial tourism” to have occurred in 2008 in Tanzania Northern tourist’s circuit.
